American army in the castle

American army in the castle of Selles-sur-Cher

Did you know ?

That American army personal lived at the castle from 1917-1919 when they landed in France at the ports of Le Havre, Brest, St Nazaire and Bordeaux, the Americans used rail links to move towards the east of France.
Apart Le Havre which had direct links to Paris, the other ports meant that they regrouped the army in the center of France using the railway hubs of Issoudun-Vierzon-Bourges. Gièvres, placed on the edge by this triangle and on the rail line from Tours received a large base camp, whilst the castle of Selles-sur-Cher provided the opportunity for a quieter military hospital.
